Celebrate America Unit Study

I’ve put together an entire semester-long unit study based on my historical novel, Matilda’s Eden. I’m teaching it on-site at Mid-Metro Academy, the homeschool academy in Roseville, MN, that I founded with my daughter in 2020. But I’m making the course available to other homeschool academies, co-ops, schools, and families to teach in their own venue.

The Celebrate America Unit Study Teacher’s Guide is now available on Amazon, just in time to teach it for Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 as a way to mark our nation’s 250th birthday. The historical Matilda Greentree grew up in the District of Columbia, Leesburg, and Baltimore. After establishing a successful millinery shop on Pennsylvania Avenue when she was only 17, she traveled 1,000 miles west to join Robert Owen’s utopian community of New Harmony, IN. Her struggles and successes provide a real-world example of coming of age in the early years of the Republic.

The book and the unit study are jam-packed with fascinating historical details that help readers and students ages 12 and up experience that era. In-class and homework activities incorporate a wide range of academic subjects–from history, geography, and science to civics, economics, and the arts. In addition to providing a rich language arts experience, the unit study allows students to delve into topics of their choice through a plethora of Enrichment and Extension Opportunities.

The turnkey lesson plans provide complete instructions and resources for teachers to lead a highly engaging, hands-on class that students will remember fondly for years to come.
